Gaja’s six hectares sit mid-slope on the La Morra side of Cerequio, where the calcareous marl soil is distinguished by a strong presence of sand. Youthfully restrained, the 2022 radiates elegance. Dark florals like violet and purple lilac mingle with tarragon, mint, incense and pulverised stone. Very complete, the palate allies substance and power in a gracious package, where sweet berries are underscored by a tangy burst of pomegranate and a touch of tar. That floral prettiness echoes on the finish, while fine, powdery tannins are well toned, though not quite ready to yield. From a massal selection of vines planted in 1965.
