Made from vines planted in 1946, in the very heart of this lauded MGA, the 2021 Ester Canale is transportive. Even if you have never been to Barolo, it speaks of an extraordinary place. Launching with a lift of rose and violet, the captivating nose progresses to fragrant forest floor, then orange zest soars from earthy depths. This is all-encompassing on the palate, where liquorice and tobacco lace through dark, mature fruit. Radiantly lit, it tightens up with chalky tannins. These are fine and velvety, but plenty of them. Superb balance.
