Just the second release, Marrone’s Castellero bottling comes from its sunbathed southwestern slope across from Cannubi. It gives grapes with ample tannins. There is certainly some vigour here, yet this remains polished and tamed. Not overtly expressive to begin, the nose suggests chestnut and crushed gravel before opening to juniper and cardamom. Brambly woodland berries appear on the palate. Acidity sparkles and an appealing touch of bitterness stimulates the appetite. The finish is lively with nutmeg and peppermint.
