Monferrato-based Barbera specialist Olim Bauda has crossed the border into the Langhe with this new, tonneaux-aged Barolo. The grapes hails from the Novello township. The high-altitude site reaches 450m. It is quite a warming, portly specimen exuding ripeness. Scents of wood spice and orange marmalade are followed by strawberry and rhubarb compote on the palate; yet there is equally a savoury character of pronounced salty and stony minerals that lends lots of intrigue. Supple, chewy tannins support. Open-knit and best to drink over the next eight years.
