Lamberto describes the second half of August as hotter than expected, with plants shutting down and struggling with phenolic ripeness. Based on the two bottles I tried, I recommend opening this vintage sooner rather than later. While a second sample showed a more integral fruit character, it evolved quickly in the glass. Melted chocolate and bouillon notes dominate. 2011 marks a reduction from 100% new oak barriques to 85% new oak.
