An intense nose of black plum compote reveals accents of smoky flint and coconut. The palate is penetrating and powerful, with masses of chewy tannins eventually surrendering to the sumptuous fruit, which effortlessly absorbs toasty oak nuances. Persistently hot, arid conditions produced tiny berries, making 2012 one of the lowest yielding years for Luce with just 28 hl/ha. It's unabashed and showy but pulls it off, and there is still plenty of everything here.
