I Campi, Campo Ciotoli, Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore, Veneto 2016

From a 5ha site at an altitude of 270 metres in Illasi with a south-southeast exposure, this wine is classic ripasso in style, with a rich, round character. It spent one year in barrique followed by a further year in bottle before release. Aromas of hedgerow berries and dried cherries are followed by a viscous, silky palate with a streak of dark chocolate running through it. Boozy cherries, wood and sweet spices add richness and weight to the soft and round mouthfeel, with a touch of warmth on the finish, although it feels like it could do with a touch more acidity.
