Framingham, Classic Riesling, Marlborough, New Zealand, 2019

Pure, balanced, perfectly summery Riesling made by masters of this particular craft. Times are changing at Framingham after head winemaker and Riesling virtuoso Dr Andrew Hedley left in December but this wine demonstrates the art of deftly marrying bright (green apple) fruit with a gentle honeyed richness and a subtle insistence. Understated but winning.

Made from some of the oldest Riesling vines in New Zealand, this is a fantastic wine, complex and characterful. Typical stone and petrol notes combine on the nose with the palate offering a rich and sumptuous texture and depth of flavour. This is juicy and mouthwatering but also full-bodied, with powerful flavours of sweet pineapple, peach, orange zest, mango and melon.
