Founded in 1700 and re-developed by Baron Eric de Rothschild, owner of Château Lafite in 1990s, Vergelegen (meaning 'situated far away') is one of the historic wineries in Somerset West of the Western Cape. Struckmatch, flint and stone fruit dominate the nose, with an undertone of wet stone and nectarine. Pure and crisp on the palate, with green apples, herbal freshness and a savoury aftertaste.
