Bodegas Corral is located on the original pilgrimage route known as Ruta Jacobea or Camino de Santiago, between Logroño and Navarrete. The vineyard is at 500m on an east-facing slope. This is an unusual wine in Rioja, as it’s 100% Maturana Tinta and spends 12 months in 390-litre clay tinaja vessels, rather than traditional oak barriques. Sarah Jane Evans MW: Great, this is new wave! Sumptuous aroma, definitely Rioja. Supple, succulent mouth, fine tannin. Dense palate of roasted plums. Rises to a juicy finish. Diana Rollan: Intense, refined nose, notes of red berries, cigar, tea and mocha. Delicious, with polished tannins, a balanced textured character – savoury, delicate and elegant. Beth Willard: Rioja but with a unique identity. Tinned peach syrup, orange blossom, red berry fruits. Quite perfumed, lively. A little more evolved than I would expect, but offers attractive jammy fruit.
