<p>All the Ygays have been darkly coloured; the greatest surprise is the extent to which the 1980 is also holding colour, with only the faintest of hints of brick beyond its bloody vermillion core. At the time there were small amounts of Garnacha (11%) and Graciano (4%) included in the blend and the ageing was not only exclusively in American oak, but also for considerably longer, 72 months in this instance. A conspicuous success, and showing no signs of fatigue, the wine rejoices in complex aromatics which include notes of orange peel and old furniture, then a palate which marries vestigial sweetness, a savoury kick and an ethereal yet spicy elegance which both defies and celebrates the passage of time with great humility.</p>
