Vines for this cuvée are 80-120 years old and it is released only in the best years. After 24 months in French oak there is spice and a chocolatey darkness to the fruit aromas, but while the palate is intense and rich, there's also an edge of cherry freshness to the acidity, plus a hint of olive (perhaps from some Cabernet Sauvignon in the unidentified 30% of the blend) and a keen tannin structure to keep it fresh.
