This cooperative in the Valais works with over 1,000 growers, and also owns 30ha of its own vines. While it works with a number of local grape varieties - including but not limited to Arvine, Cornalin and Humagne Rouge - this wine is a blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay. It portrays both its grape varieties successfully: the meaty, earthiness of Pinot Noir with the sweet strawberry fruit of Gamay. It's really quite savoury too, with charcuterie and herbes de Provence, toasted rye bread and a green stemmy note. Unusual, but there's something stylish about it, and Swiss wines can be expensive so with this one under £20 it's worth giving it a go, great to take to a dinner party and pair with earthy mushroom dishes.
