The XO Syrah from Bien Nacido Estates shows off the famed X Block, the first cool-climate Syrah planted in California. Dating to 1987, there's a strict limit of just four customers for its fruit per harvest. 

The nose is comprised of lavender, wet leather and burning embers. The palate is explosive and multi-dimensional, loaded with smouldering dark fruits, green pepper and black olives. The finish is svelte and has impressive length, stitching together equal parts ripe fruit, clean acid and a gritty structure - this is built for the long haul.
