The 2021 Blue Rock Estate Cabernet Sauvignon showcases fruit from Blue Rock’s rugged, steeply sloped estate vineyard in Sonoma County’s Alexander Valley. Aged for 21 months in a mix of new and neutral French oak, the wine draws from multiple Cabernet blocks across the estate. Alluring blackcurrant fruit, cedarwood, dried sage, walnut husk, and cherry liqueur aromatics rise from the glass, leading to a softly textured palate with a creamy mid-palate revealing layers of loamy earth. Structured, firm, fine-grained tannins build through a medium- to full-bodied finish, accented by wet slate minerality, tobacco, and dark cocoa notes. One of the nicest wines I tasted from Wells Guthrie, who now oversees the winemaking. Blue Rock Vineyard was purchased in 1987 by Kenneth and Cheryl Kahn.
