This sees 70% new French oak for three months, then half of that is racked to concrete for six months. It comes from the Escolle Vineyard estate, where the Chardonnay is planted on the lower slopes, with more alluvial soils. While the oak is unmissable on the nose, it shows as vanilla bean, poached pear and nutmeg spice. There is an elegance on the palate, as ripe and spiced tree fruits, baked apples and nutmeg. Definitely California in style, but so well done.
