The core of this wine is crafted from co-fermented lots of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc sourced from the Poetry and Calistoga Estate vineyards, as well as the Madrona Ranch in St. Helena, farmed by David Abreu. The blend also includes 2% Petit Verdot and 1% Malbec, aged for 22 months in 71% new French oak. It opens with a host of lovely wild herb nuances, blackberry and black cherry fruit, and elegant cedarwood and Christmas spice, showing an upfront approachability that’s hard to resist, with crushed cacao nib undertones. The tannins are ultra-fine, almost lacy, and the finish is bright and driven by a stony mineral character that feels fresh and inviting.
