Winemaker Brandon-Sparks Gillis shows what high elevation John Sebastiano Vineyard Syrah planted at 274 metres Syrah is capable of in this pure-fruited, mineral-driven, energetic red. Open-top fermenters, with 15% whole cluster and 2-3 days of cold soak with native yeast fermentation. Aged 17 months in 15% new French oak. A tightly knit Syrah offers a gorgeous potpourri of dark berry fruit with savoury cured meat and dried tobacco spices, hints of candied violets, and a touch of smoke. Medium-bodied with a deep concentration of flavours and an almost featherweight quality, but with immense structure framed by angular tannins with a velvet edge and crisp, crunchy acidity. 380 cases produced.
