The bottle is silk-screened with a leopard print. Why? Jean-Charles Boisset wanted something wild and animalistic, and Syrah struck him as the perfect match—meaty, sleek, muscular, stealthy, leopard-like. The Syrah comes from hillside parcels in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley, with Malbec and Cabernet Franc sourced from Oakville. It is intensely perfumed, showing violet character, a touch of white truffle and charcuterie, and a whisper of white pepper. It is sauvage—savage, even—in its own beautifully untamed way. One can easily imagine Jean-Charles discreetly suggesting that you let this wine seize your imagination by the fangs and run wild with seductive thoughts. Amid all this drama, take note of the polished, sleek tannins and the gorgeous, juicy blue and black fruit that support the wine’s savoury, feral aromatics.
