Petite Sirah co-fermented with Viognier and Syrah co-fermented with Viognier from Shake Ridge Vineyard in the Sierra Foothills. Helen Keplinger blends the lots together a few months before bottling, but until then, they rest in a cold, dark cellar, ageing on the lees for about 17 months. In the glass, this wine is super-fresh and lifted, with floral notes spanning white flowers, rose petals, and violets, interplaying with rich dark berry fruit and a graphite minerality. On the medium- to full-bodied palate, the wine builds with a sense of resilience, framed by powerful tannins that are subtly chalky and faintly bergamot-tea–like, carrying through to a long, drawn-out finish marked by dark, mineral-driven intensity. It’s like a mash-up of graphite and slate dusted with warming, gentle Indian spices—rich and inviting, yet remarkably fresh and complex.
