This single-vineyard bottling comes from the upper blocks of the Escolle Vineyard, but it’s all one clone, 943, a Dijon clone with tiny, seedless berries and great concentration. There’s a powerful intensity here, but it’s really well balanced with black fruits and streaks of blood orange tang. This is a more ageable bottling according to winemaker Greg Stach, the longer, cooler growing conditions in the northern end of the SLH lend themselves to an elegance in concentration. Escolle gives him the structure and acids he’s looking for.
