While Godello doesn't have the same fame as its compatriot Albariño in California (both varieties from Galicia), it is slowly getting recognition on this side of the world. Godello feels at home at Marimar Estate. Planted at the Don Miguel Vineyard — named after Marimar Torres' late father and an ode to her Spanish roots — it expresses quite well in the Russian River. For reference, it feels almost like Chardonnay. The 2023 vintage of this wine shows notes of apple skins, lemon peel, dried chamomile, savory herbs, and a roundness on the palate. Flavors of ripe fruit in the mid-palate mix well with a nice finish that is both lifted and textured, closing on a herbal note. A compelling wine from a grape that deserves more attention.
