This is a new project for Merry Edwards Winery, with fruit sourced from two distinct sites. One is Carney, an older planting located just outside Boonville, where Clone 95 contributes lush fruit and bright aromatics. The second is Navarro Fair Hills Vineyard in the Deep End of Anderson Valley, planted to Clone 76. The wine is made in a deliberately brighter, more energetic style. The fruit is whole-bunch pressed and entirely barrel-fermented, then aged for nine months, with 26 per cent new French oak and a further 9% aged in stainless-steel barrels. The current winemaker is Heidi von der Mehden, who stepped into the role following Merry Edwards’ retirement in 2020, having worked closely alongside her for several years and becoming only the second head winemaker in the estate’s history. The wine delivers exactly as intended: bright, vibrant, and expressive, driven by creamy citrus fruit, a pop of tangerine oil, and a gentle kiss of honeysuckle. The medium-bodied palate shows a deeper core of lemon and tangerine oil, carrying through to a very expressive, lively, and thoroughly delicious finish.
