RU3 is a blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, and 8% Petit Verdot, conceived as the purest expression of the estate’s vision, with a clear focus on these three varieties and the goal of crafting the finest wine possible from the property. First attempted in 2014 after years of consideration, the wine has now nearly a decade of refinement behind it. Today, it is fermented primarily in oak tanks and new French oak, then aged for 19 months in approximately 77% new oak. Compared with the Rutherford Estate Cabernet, RU3 delivers greater intensity and depth, with more pronounced oak spice aromas layered over darker berry fruit. The palate is bold yet seamless, showing robust, integrated flavours of fine, dark cocoa powder, dusty rose, and crème de cassis, all carried by a long, mineral-driven, loamy earth finish. Full-bodied, expressive, polished, and suave.
