The Ojai Vineyard’s John Sebastiano Syrah initially made me think of “a Syrah grown in Vosne-Romanée”. The nose is seductive and savoury, with aromas of black pepper, cocoa nibs, and tamarind. The texture is plush and luxurious, with flavours of layered dark fruits and roasted, charred earth on the finish. Another wonderfully balanced and “true” expression of Syrah from The Ojai Vineyard. (The 2016 expansion of the Sta. Rita Hills included the John Sebastiano site, so look for recent vintages to claim this appellation.)
