A surprisingly savoury, full-flavoured, and complex blend of Charbono (Bonarda), Petite Sirah, and Syrah, crafted by Francoise Peschon for Vintner Matt Morris. Hearty aromas lift from the glass, calling to mind brandied cherries and cured meat flecked with dried thyme, sage, hay, and cedar. For all its brooding aromas, it's rather balletic on the palate, medium-bodied, full of life and tangy red-berry fruits like spiced plums and cherries, along with a good dollop of toasty oak, which lends some girth in the form of sappy, beam-like tannins that cling to the sides of the mouth and are framed by a backbone of blood orange acidity resolving in wet forest-rich flavours and scents. Utterly intriguing, and it will be interesting to follow its trajectory.
