Working in Oregon during 2024 threw a curveball at Riesling head Shane Munn: botrytis. The Okanagan Valley is cool but dry, and it’s never been a tool he had at his disposal. He leaned into it. Roughly 50% of the grapes were botrytis-affected, then left to sit on the skins for 48 hours to coax out as much juice as possible. Aromatically shy but operatic on the palate, rising through pure, captivating notes of candied ginger, pomelo, savoury and tarragon. Alcohol is well integrated. Even on unfamiliar terrain, Munn flexes why Martin’s Lane continues to be one of the country’s top Riesling labels.
