Climate conditions have been erratic in Piedmont with many producers saying it’s been a tough and difficult vintage. The early part of the summer saw draught and moderate temperatures before rains came mid-August. To compound the draught stress, the region experienced hailstorms and an attack of Baco 22—a disease which causes vines to dry out and die. Overall, even the best conditions were difficult.
