World-renowned winemaker Marcelo Pelleriti splits his time between Argentina and France, trying to achieve winemaking excellence in both countries. For this, his own personal project started a decade ago, he returned to the place where he made his first wine in 1994, a 110ha farm he owns in La Consulta in Uco Valley. Here we are in the foothills of the Andes at 1,000m altitude, and the alluvial soils and irrigation by pure meltwater bestow a freshness and finesse on his wines. Grapes ripen slowly here, preserving freshness in the plum and blackberry fruit. After 15 months in new French oak, the fruit still sings – soft and lifted notes of salted plums, dark and fresh. Very good value.
