Tumbarumba in New South Wales is relatively young as a wine region, with the first vines planted in 1982. It's a cool-climate area, and the majority of grapes are used for sparkling wine, but the still wines that are produced here include this classy Chardonnay from respected estate De Bortoli. A lovely green-gold in the glass, it's super delicious, toasty on the nose, with lemon curd and lime citrus and some flintiness. The oak is well integrated, and the cool climate makes this elegant and fresh while unmistakably New World.
