This good-value claret from Listrac in Bordeaux's Haut-Médoc region is sourced from vineyards planted on clay-limestone soils that are more typical of the Right Bank than the Left (as is the blend: 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Sauvignon). Fermentation is in stainless steel, and then the wine undergoes micro-oxygenation in tank, which helps to soften the tannins. It then ages for year in a mix of stainless steel and French oak barrels. It's appetising, sapid and fresh with attractive blackcurrant and blackberry primary fruit flavours. A little bottle age adds complexity. Mix-six price: £18
