The Right Bank of Bordeaux enjoyed a very good vintage in 2016 and this, from Château du Val D'Or, offers good value at grand cru level. It's quite a polished style, sweetly fruited and almost exotic in character, but with decent tannins. Bags of ripe primary fruit - plum and blackcurrant – with some cocoa and cedar notes after 18 months in oak. Very drinkable, with or without the classic roast meat pairing.
