At just under £13, this may seem pricey for a Lidl red, but well-made Vacqueyras offers real value for money, and this example is a smart buy, giving a good level of pleasure and complexity for the price. We're in the southern Rhône, so a Grenache-dominated blend, but a step up from the Côtes du Rhône Villages level. There's a lovely balance to this wine, with the sweetly fruited black berry and bramble notes in harmony with subtle oak and an attractive savouriness. Full bodied and full of flavour, you could pair this with robust meat dishes like a hearty stew.
