Made in Bergerac, Monbazillac is far more affordable than Sauternes (this one under £14 for a full 75cl bottle), but made in the same style. This example is made entirely from the Semillon grape, and is perfectly balanced, fully sweet but with freshening acidity, lifted peach fruit flavours and a hint of barley sugar. A chilled glass served as an aperitif on a warm summer's day – heavenly!
