History:

Today a vineyard of modest size, Chateau Suau was once a noble estate complete with stately home. The property takes its name from 18th century owner Elie de Suau, who was a court advisor to Louis XIV. On the marriage of de Suau’s daughter, the estate passed to the Lur-Saluces family (already a big name in Sauternes) but in 1793 it was sold. During the 19th century, the property passed from the Pédesclaux family – they gave their name to the cru classé Pauillac Château – to Emile Garros, who was estate manager at Yquem at the time. In 1960, the land alone was sold to Daniel Biarnes, whose son Roger is now in charge.
