Jura: Expert’s Choice

Made from a third each of Poulsard, Trousseau and Pinot Noir vinified together and aged three years in very old barrels. This is almost Burgundian in structure, with brooding fruit and leathery notes.

<p>Corv&eacute;es is one of the finest sites for Trousseau. Made without SO2 and aged for a short time in foudres, this wine shows delicious soft red fruit. Very drinkable.</p>

From old vines and aged for 24 months in large oak, this Trousseau shows meaty spice and brooding dark red fruit. Characteristic acidity and ripe tannins.

With no SO2, this is one for natural wine lovers. Wonderful minerality from the hard clay of the fine Mailloche vineyard shows through the simple appley fruit.

Another really surprising Savagnin ouillé, with slightly damp straw notes allied with lemon meringue pie character. Surprisingly unoaked, the characteristic grey marl soils give a spicy edge.

Deep smoky and toasted walnut notes on the nose, followed by a whack of acidity, balanced by richness of spiced cream and old barrels. Traditional Jura style.

Frédéric Lornet was one of the pioneers of the Savagnin ouillé style, naming his Naturé, an old local name for the variety. Elegant and fresh, with a lovely texture of minerals, spice and lemons.

Savagnin made in the ouillé (topped up, rather than oxidative) style. Pale with tangy lemons on the nose, and a delightful dry, pure, juicy, fresh and stony palate.

<p>This oxidative Chardonnay-Savagnin blend is a classic introduction to the style. Damp straw and apple with hints of nuts are joined by earthy and spicy flavours.</p>

Another Burgundian-style Chardonnay of great class from 60-year-old vines; lovely balance of apples, oak, minerals and acidity. Will develop well.

Nutty and baked citrus fruits on the nose and palate mark this out as a classic oxidative Savagnin, aged under yeast for 30 months. High acidity balanced with weight. A baby Vin Jaune.

<p>An expressive nose displays some dried fruit from a touch of noble rot, along with curry spices. Rich and softer than the fine 2005 vintage, this is nevertheless top-level Vin Jaune.</p>

<p>From Ganevat&rsquo;s oldest grafted vines planted in 1902, farmed biodynamically and oak aged. High acidity, concentration, length and a precise, stony character.</p>

This young Vin Jaune from the best vintage in recent years is hardly yellow – more straw- coloured. The complex nose includes peat and spices, and searing acidity is backed by intense flavours. Elegant.
