More than 50 Argentinian sommeliers attended the first-ever Decanter World Wine Awards tasting in Argentina.
The event, held at the Arroyo Street Sofitel in Buenos Aires, showcased 13 of the 20 Argentinian wines awarded a gold medal or trophy winners at the 2010 Decanter World Wine Awards.
Sommeliers from the Argentine Sommelier Association (AAS) tasted the wines in four flights.
The tasting was hosted by Marina Gayan MW, Andres Rosberg and Fabricio Portelli, from the Argentina panel of the Decanter World Wine Awards.
Marina Gayan MW, chairman of the Argentina panel at the DWWA and organiser of the event, told decanter.com: ‘This was a chance for sommeliers to see that we choose the best wines and, these wines send a message that this is the way forward in terms and style internationally.’
‘The UK chooses pretty wines that are elegant and balanced rather than big, oaky styles and sometimes the domestic market doesn’t get to taste wines that are exported.’
Event organisers hope to run the event again in 2011.
