Simon Tam to head Christie’s in China

Auction house Christie's is stepping up its efforts in the Far East with the appointment of its first-ever head of wine for China.
Simon Tam, the founder of the Independent Wine Centre will lead the auction house’s move into Greater China from his Hong Kong base.
Christie’s has also added to its Asia team with a new head of marketing for the region and a Shanghai representative.
Francois Curiel, president of Christie’s Asia, said: ‘These appointments are part of a larger set of initiatives planned for 2011 which demonstrate, once again, our great commitment to Asia and our desire to offer the best service possible to collectors throughout the region.’
This week London merchant Bordeaux Index announced it will launch a wine school in Hong Kong. Hong Kong wine educator Anastasia Mak will run the school, based on Michael Schuster’s courses at Bordeaux Index’s London office.
