M&S

Whistle-clean and fantastic combination of the two grapes, with the Sauvignon adding zip, Semillon the body and texture. This is crisp but full, lemon-fresh and very long.

Les Senteurs, St. Romain, Burgundy 2006

From vineyards located around the village of St. Romain in the Côtes de Beaune, this is a strong, mineral wine that, to be honest, doesn’t blow you away on the nose. It’s far more generous to taste with inviting levels of concentrated fruit and dashes of floral spice.

Domaine Pierre de Préhy, Chablis, Burgundy 2006

Plenty of classic, Chablis steel here with flinty mineral streaks but a generous layer of flesh fruit, also. Has more charm than many other Chablis and a nice texture to boot.

Knock On Wood Sauvignon Blanc-Semillon, Western Cape 2008

Forward and vibrant with crunchy, pumchy fruit and smoky, pea-pod aromas. In the mouth it’s well-structured but with fleshy, accessible fruit, also.

Sainsbury’s

Sainsbury’s, Taste the Difference Gavi, Piedmont 2007

Accessible, fresh quaffer with bountiful amounts of fruity appeal. It’s elegant, also, with delicate white peach aromas and quite a long, mineral-tinged finish.

Sainsbury’s, Taste The Difference Albariño, Rias Baixas 2007

Good value, forward Albariño from northern Spain with ripe fruit, fresh pineapple notes on both nose and palate, and a sprinkling of herbs which give it a bit of complexity. .

Asda

Asda Extra Special Gewurztraminer, Alsace 2006

This perhaps lacks a touch of persistence on the finish but nonetheless will have plenty of fans as it being packed with the rich and exotic characteristics of the Gewürztraminer grape. It’s fresh and floral, with lively dashes of peppery spice.

Tesco

Tesco Finest, Block 7A Viognier, Murray Darling, Victoria 2007

Great realisation of this Rhône grape with distinctive and pure apricot kernal aromas. It’s supremely flavoursome with good balance, nice texture and fine length, too.

Tesco Finest, Denman Vineyard Reserve Semillon, Hunter Valley 2006

Produced by McGuigan and from Australia’s famed Semillon region, this is great value. A youthful, vibrant offering, with crisp lemon and lime aromas, the palate is similarly refreshing with ripe and attractive fruit.

Waitrose

Waitrose, In Partnership with Joseph Mellot, Sancerre, Loire Valley 2007

This is classic, zesty Sancerre with a deliciously refreshing structure supporting vibrant, grassy aromas and textbook minerality
