A selection of vintage prewar wines that were successfully hidden from the occupying German forces in Guernsey during the second world war were finally sold for £50,000 in London yesterday.

The wines, which had been kept hidden by Channel Islands’ wine and spirit merchant Bucktrout & Co in a secret chamber during the German occupation, were sold by UK auctioneer Bonhams.
