Casal de Ventozela, Vent'oz Alvarinho, Vinho Verde, Portugal 2021

Vinho Verde is the perfect summer white – light, refreshing and eminently quaffable. Available from July, this new listing isn't spritzy like some of them can be, but displays plenty of fresh appley fruit, along with some stone fruit flavours. It's expressive and clean, and would be a perfect wine for a midweek supper in the garden. (There's another new Vinho Verde in the Waitrose range which is more expensive and a step up in complexity – the Deu La Deu Alvarinho is very good, but only available in a handful of stores, from July.)
