Best value Burgundy 2014, by Stephen Brook:
Domaine Claudie Jobard, Montagne La Folie, Rully, Burgundy, France, 2014

Firm nutty nose, toasty and assertive. Rich, full-bodied, and concentrated, with spiciness and fine acidity, a gutsy Rully, with swagger, pungent and long.

Patrick Guillot, Mercurey, 1er Cru Clos de Montaigu, Burgundy, France, 2014

Fairly deep red. Muted cherry nose but quite dense. full-bodied and jazzy, quite tannic but has vigour thanks to its acidity. It's solid and far from elegant but overdelivers on fruit and energy. Quite long.

Domaine Jean-Philippe Fichet, Vieilles Vignes, Burgundy, France, 2014

Brisk and lively nose, with apricot aromas. Good attack, lean and zesty, not much depth of flavour but it's vibrant, with flair and pep, and an attractive minerality on the finish. Quite good acidity and length.

Bright lime and apple nose. Good attack, lean and fresh, with a piquant edge. This leaps from the glass and is tangy and vibrant. A delicious wine with fine acidity and length.

Domaine des Varoilles, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru, Burgundy, France, 2014

Unusually deep red. Sweet intense raspberry nose, wrapped in stylish oak. Rich, creamy, and full-bodied, a luxurious style with fine-grained tannins, very concentrated, with discreet oakiness. Very long. A sophisticated Grand Cru at a fair price.

Robert Chevillon, Vieilles Vignes, Nuits-St-Georges, Burgundy, France, 2014

92
Fairly deep red. Sweet fruity nose, full of charm, displaying ripe red fruits. Rich, suave attack, but then the tannins kick in on the mid-palate. This may lack finesse but it has abundant fruit and plenty of Nuits muscle without being too extracted. Good length.
