Veuve Clicquot, Rosé, Champagne, France

My wines

89

Elaborated with 40 to 60 different crus, this cuvée is composed of 44-48% Pinot Noir, 13-18% Pinot Meunier, and 25-29% Chardonnay. A smoky and Burgundian nose of cherry and griottes. Some rose petal aromas too, and touches of mint and strawberry. Moderately weighted palate, well-balanced and very fresh, with delicate aromas of red berries. An aperitif Champagne.

Nyetimber, Rosé, West Sussex, England, United Kingdom

My wines

93

A beautifully-crafted Chardonnay-based rosé fizz, balancing moreish richness with elegant florality and red fruit crunchiness. Redcurrant, red cherry and wild strawberry are lined with star anise, fennel seed, and rose petals. Soft yet lively mousse, infused with lavender oil. Buttery persistent nuances on the back palate.

Graham Beck, The Rhona Brut Rosé, Western Cape, South Africa

My wines

91

Graham Beck is a master at Methode Cap Classique wine (sparklings made in the traditional Champagne method) and The Rhona is always a reliable buy at M&S, which often has it on offer for under £13. This Pinot Noir and Chardonnay blend has a pretty pink hue, fine mousse and ripe summer pudding aromas and flavours, with yeasty complexity and crunchy green apple freshness.

Ultramarine, Sparkling Rosé of Pinot Noir, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast, California, USA, 2011

My wines

94

Michael Cruse, the leader of California's sparkling wine revolution, produces this rosé from the Charles Heitz vineyard, and the site's signature saline minerality is front and centre here. Notes of red berry fruit, baked rhubarb and smoky, caremelized blood orange are equally evocative of the wine's Sonoma Coast origins. A refined mousse frames a wine with Californian volume but taught acidity.

Cono Sur, Sparkling Rosé, Bío Bío Valley, Chile

My wines

90

This pretty pink sparkling from one of the big players in Chile is unbelievably good value. From a cool-climate area, it has inviting aromas of strawberry and rose. Tangy and refreshing, this fizz will make a great tipple at any time of the year. Sleek packaging too.

Lidl, Chiaretto di Bardolino, Veneto, Italy, 2017

My wines

88

Bardolino Chiaretto is the Veneto region's signature rosé style, and here we have it in sparkling form that's perfect with some fresh strawberries and meringue. It has delicate red fruit aromas with a creamy mouthfeel and gentle bubbles. The red fruit juiciness is married to some sweetness. Summer in a bottle!
