See the Bordeaux 2015 wines that Steven Spurrier and James Lawther MW are watching out for as en primeur prices are released.

Not everybody can afford a first growth – of course – and the good quality of Bordeaux 2015 means that there is potential for value further down the regional hierarchy for anyone looking to take advantage of the en primeur market.

Decanter will bring you more best value Bordeaux 2015 wines at different price levels as the en primeur campaign progresses.

‘It is one of those years, like 1998 or 2001, where the Merlot is spot on and where the Cabernet Franc, if brought to optimum ripeness, is also superb,’ said James Lawther MW, Decanter’s Right Bank expert for 2015.

‘There will be a wine for every pocket,’ said Steven Spurrier, who judged the 2015 Médoc wines for Decanter. Bordeaux’s Left Bank had more of a mixed experience due to longer-lasting rain in the north of Médoc, but Spurrier said many still went to achieve good ripeness.

When to drink Bordeaux 2015 wines

‘The dominant impression from the top to the bottom of the Gironde estuary is of drinkability,’ said Spurrier in his full review of the vintage published in the June issue of Decanter magazine.

‘The lighter wines may be opened for Christmas 2018, leave it another year for most of the Médocs and Haut-Médocs from the south, and by autumn 2020 corks can be pulled on all but the firmer styles and the classified growths.’
