This was another patchy vintage, in which the Consejo Regulador’s ‘official’ classification of 3 was probably a bit optimistic. Corral was the only dissenter on the upside, giving it 4 and putting 12% of its wine into Gran Reserva. El Coto, Montecillo, Faustino, Olarra and Ondarre only rated it as a 2 (although the last three still made 5% of Gran Reserva, as did Martínez Bujanda), and overall 3% of wine went for Gran Reserva but it was never destined to be a long
liver.
