One of the oldest wine farms in South Africa, dating back to 1692, Spier is also home to a luxurious four-star hotel. A perfect base for exploring the winelands, the village-style resort is modelled on the colourful Bo-Kaap area of Cape Town, with its cobblestone streets and brightly painted houses.
Airy rooms and suites – all featuring original artwork – are clustered around six courtyards, each with its own swimming pool, overlooking the estate’s extensive gardens and the Eerste River.
Foodies can feast on farm-to-table dishes, made with organic seasonal produce from the estate’s biodynamic farm. Or drop into Vadas Smokehouse & Bakery for fresh sourdough or blueberry and nectarine pie, as well as smoked beef brisket and bourbon barbecue pork. Wine tastings and food pairings at the estate’s bright and spacious tasting room feature Spier’s range of award-winning bottles.
