Over 100 years and counting making wine, this estate is now run by Anna and Paola Borgogno, with the new generations (Federica and Emanuela, daughters of Anna and Paola respectively) starting work here in 2010 and 2011. Better still, the wines seem to be improving by leaps and bounds, welcome news since this is one of the largest estates with vineyard holdings in the prized Cannubi cru. Its vines in Cannubi range, roughly, from 15 to 35 years of age, and the wines are traditionally made, with cement and large oak casks dotting the cellar. Differently from this Cannubi Barolo bottling, the classic Barolo bottling is made with grapes from Novello and La Morra.
Paolo Basso Nougat, raisins, grenadine and sweet spices. Rich and savoury, with character and an open personality. Intense tannins and medium to long finish.
Ian D’Agata Clean, fresh with hints of pomegranate, star fruit, red cherry and plum on the complex nose. Clean and polished at first, but then turns increasingly dry and tannic on the back, so this needs plenty of food to tame those tannins.
Michael Garner Forward and spicy nose of chestnut and sugar plum. This wine is round, ripe, full and juicy with great aromatic development, well-balanced tannins and good length.
