And the winner is...

Argento, Bonarda, Mendoza, Argentina

UK: £6.99; Bib. US: $12.99; USLN

And so the Argentinian juggernaut rolls on, thanks to a super wine made from the country’s ‘other’ signature red grape and produced by one of its major names. Since its formation in 1998, Argento has been Argentina’s most visible ambassador. Many wine drinkers overseas will have had their first Argentinian encounter courtesy of Argento, which is owned by Bodegas Esmeralda of Argentina and UK wine importer Bibendum. In the past decade, Argento has evolved to become a reliable standard-bearer for Argentina, producing balanced, fruit-forward wines that are keenly priced. The company understands something crucial about Argentinian culture: that wine is part of the family’s table.
