The 2004 Rioja vintage has been awarded an ‘excellent’ rating for a harvest that should go down as a ‘historic’, the region’s main trade body says.
Analysis of the whole Rioja region in northern Spain has resulted in the allocation of this top category by the Consejo Regulador (Regulatory Council).
The weather in 2004 was ideal for the vintage, experts say. A spokesman for the Council said, ‘an extrordinary growth cycle contributed to the production of full, ripe aromatic wines.’
