Presenting Shiraz from the Barossa in a disarming, captivating new light, this micro-block offering is lean, sinewy, laced with mineral bite and showing almost translucent shades of fruit flavour that twist and roll with exciting energy. Sourced from only six rows of 1950s vines, it bears the influence of bony quartzite and schist soils that add a lithe mineral lick to the savoury mid-palate. It captures subtle shades of blueberry, blood plum and a pinch of Chinese fivespice, walking a tightrope between sweet and tart accents. Alkina has employed careful technique, fermenting 50% whole bunches then matured in unlined concrete tulip and egg which keeps the flavour profile calm, deep and resonant with firm-yet-fine steely tannins.
